Brief History
AIDRom (Inter-Church AID Department Romania) started
its activity in 1991 under a form of cooperation between
the Churches of the country: Romanian Orthodox, Reformed
and Lutheran, in cooperation with Unit IV (Sharing and
Service) of the World Council of Churches. It had functioned
in this way until 1993 when it became a Romanian juridical
body under the name of: The Ecumenical Association of
Churches in Romania. In 1994 other two Romanian Churches
became members: the Evangelical Lutheran Synodal Presbyterian
Church and the Armenian Orthodox Church.
AIDRom underwent a process of Development and with time
became a national platform for ecumenical dialogue and
collaboration of Churches in Romania and at the same
time continued to operate as a development agency, processing
projects aiming at the improvement of educational systems,
both formal and informal, social-economic, moral-spiritual
situation and protection of environment in the country.
AIDRom works in three main departments: Ecumenical Platform
and Formation, Interchurch Aid and Development and Education
for Peace and Reconciliation.
