Over the last decades, violence and violnece against women specially, has moved onto the antional and internationla agendas for politicians, policy makers and profesionals. The experience of physical , emotional or sexual assault involves having one's respect, dignity and bodily integrity violated. Gender violence always involves personal and intimate violation and may laso include betrayal of trust if the offender is known. We know that violence against women is amongst the most under-reported forms of crime. the number of women reporting to the police is only a fraction of those attacked. Research also suggests women and children are assaulted many times before they report to the police-it is important to remember this, it may be the first time you have been aware of the violence, but it may not be the first incident of violence.
